Isle health insurance could be nation’s model

AFTER more than two decades of rising numbers of residents lacking health insurance, the trend in Hawaii is improving . Statistics released by the Census Bureau show the percentage of uninsured in Hawaii has dropped for the third consecutive year, and a new law ensuring coverage for all children in the state promises to lower the number even further.

Town workers may get state health insurance

Municipal workers may be joining the state's health insurance group within the next two years. The town will not take part in the statewide health insurance coalition this year, but a study committee headed by Assistant Town Administrator Jim Johnson will look at possibly joining next year.

Retirees picket EMBARQ because the company plans to discontinue paying for their health insurance

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Glenn Ward said he spends $3,000 a month buying the prescription drugs needed to treat his wife’s Parkinson’s disease. He and other EMBARQ retirees learned last month they will lose their company-paid health insurance on Jan. 1.
